Phishing – a practical case study

2009
02.06

With the tremendous increase in the use of online banking, online share trading and ecommerce, there has been a corresponding growth in the incidents of phishing being used to carry out financial frauds.

Phishing involves fraudulently acquiring sensitive information (e.g. passwords, credit card details etc) by masquerading as a trusted entity.

The usual scenario is that the victim receives an email that appears to have been sent from his bank. The email urges the victim to click on the link in the email. When the victim does so, he is taken to “a secure page on the bank’s website”. The victim believes the web page to be authentic and he enters his username, password and other information. In reality, the website is a fake and the victim’s information is stolen and misused.

Phishing – a practical case study is a first of its kind case study in the world and has been released by Asian School of Cyber Laws. It explains the above scenario in detail along with two fully functional websites:

Free course in Intellectual Property Rights

2009
02.03

After the resounding success of the Online Introductory course in Cyber Law, we’ve now launched the Free Online Introductory course in Intellectual Property Rights (OICIPR).

On joining the course (which takes only an online registration) you’d get to know the basic concepts of Intellectual Property Rights.

You get course material in the form of a PDF file. You can take your exam online. But the best is yet to come.

The greatest part is that despite being a free course, completion entitles you to a certificate from us! :)

To get yourself on our rolls, just go to http://www.asianlaws.org/free/index.htm and register there. And if you are the calculating type and are asking yourself “What’s the catch”, we say “None”.

Once you’ve successfully completed the exam, just send us a stamped self-addressed envelope and we’ll send you the certificate.

So, let’s review. Free course in IPR, online course material, certification provided. Are you still only thinking about joining?

We’ve been a family for a long time. We finally felt that the time was right for us to become a community. So we’ve launched the ASCL Community.

The ASCL community features a wide range of resources and useful information.

You can get the latest events at ASCL from the ASCL Calendar. We’re also giving you a chance to sign up to receive all the latest information about our events via email.

Our forum on Cyber Crime & You is a one stop info-zone on how cyber crimes affect you and how to deal with them.

You can also enrol for the immensely popular Free Online Introductory course in Cyber Law.

In addition, we’ve got the ASCL Student of the Month and Alumnus of the Month nominations going on. There is the ASCL Online Poll where you can come and give your opinion on significant issues.

We’ve got Hacking Challenges, the ASCL Online Library and tips for enhancing your child’s safety online.

Of course, we’ve got links to all our associate websites too.

So, to get the latest @ ASCL join the ASCL Community.

ASCL Alumnus of the Month

2009
01.22

You helped us become what we are today. So we’re giving you a chance to nominate yourself as ASCL Alumnus of the Month!

What’s it all about? Well, you need to send us information about anything special (and you get to decide that for your nomination) that you may be doing or have done recently. We offer a pretty wide range in special – academics, sports, social work, great placements, talent awards, participations – anything special.

Oh! And while you are at it, we’d love it if you could send us your pic with this information. A really cool pic, you know the kind that shows us the real you. Make it special, not just what’s there on your passport. But no obscene pics, please! :) So get those digicams out and click a special photo for us and email it to us.

One more small thing. Do mention the roll number you got when you were here.

As for those of you who are trivia buffs and know that Alumnus literally means Graduate Man, we’d like to tell you we’re pretty liberal not literal here. So, come on ladies, join the fun!

BTW, we’re offering this chance at stardom to our current students also. They only have to nominate themselves for Student of the Month.

So, go on! Email us at info@asianlaws.org

ASCL Student of the Month

2009
01.22

We know you as our students. We’d like to get to know you better. So here’s your chance to nominate yourself as ASCL’s Student of the Month.

What will it take? Well, for one info on what you have been doing of late – your achievements, your awards, even your participation in any event of importance. And what’s amazing is it doesn’t have to be academic, though we’re not ruling that out. Come out with your deeds in sports, in talent competitions, your social good deeds and even good samaritan deeds.

What else? Your pics. Now, don’t send in any boring passport size photos (we aren’t giving any Visas). Send us your cool pics. While that does imply non-boring, it doesn’t imply obscene. ;) So go on! Take out those heavy duty digicams and send in your snaps.

One more small thing. Your steps to stardom have to go through ASCL. So you’ve got to be a registered student of Asian School of Cyber Laws or ASCL Law School. And if you were and are now alumni of ASCL (have completed a course with ASCL or ALS), you can nominate yourself as Alumnus of the Month!

Soooo? What you waiting for? Email us at info@asianlaws.org and watch yourself go from student to Student Star!
